The Pathways to Physician Diversity: A National Summit is designed to generate a national conversation on current challenges and future solutions to engorging the pipeline for underrepresented students in medical education. Participants will engage in deconstructing the MD/MD-PhD pathway to identify ways to increase diversity in medicine. Participants will be provided with an opportunity to review and explore evidence that defines the diversity pipeline for physicians and physician scientists. Additionally, planners will seek to identify individuals and groups to share best practices for advancing diversity in the medical education pipeline as well as showcasing novel strategies that aim to prepare underrepresented students to pursue these careers. Plans also include development of proceedings from the conference presentations and discussion inclusive of identified goals, targets and an ongoing mechanism for monitoring and reporting outcomes.
