This course is for everyone--even those who have a specialization in chemical dependency.
Are you aware that Instagram is the latest location for drug buys and connections? That more than 350 illicit synthetic drugs are currently in circulation? That today's average first-time heroin user is most likely to be a 23 year old white woman? That 3 percent of high school students report using heroin regularly and they started using heroin because they could not obtain prescription painkiller? Or that prescription drug abuse and addiction is the fastest growing epidemic in chemical dependency? If you are not aware of these current trends, you may be missing an important aspect of treatment for your clients.
Whether you have a certification in chemical dependency counseling or not, you will benefit from the information available in this workshop. Although this course covers current trends in drug and alcohol use, it focuses on what is happening on the streets and in the homes of Washington state.
This interactive course covers the main drug categories and their effect on the brain and body over time; the latest reports of illicit drugs and their use; the drugs seen in Washington state communities; the treatment available; and the personal dynamics and progression of use, abuse and addiction.
