Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University in collaboration with the Australian National University and Bahçelievler Municipality invites young M.A. and Ph.D. students and young researchers specializing in Migration and Cultural Interaction to propose a paper at the “International Symposium for Young Scholars on Migration and Cultural Interaction in Ottoman Empire and Turkey” to be held on April 2-3, 2018 in Istanbul, Turkey.
With the “International Symposium on Migration and Cultural Interaction in Ottoman Empire and Turkey”, Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University intends to bring together international M.A. and Ph.D. students and also young researchers specializing on Ottoman Empire and Turkey, in particular relation to Migration and Cultural Interaction, from European countries such as Britain, France, Germany, Holland, Belgium, Greece and Turkey as well as Middle East, United States, Canada, Australia and Far East. The main themes of the conference will be the historical, political, social, economic and military aspects of the migration and cultural interaction as they are reflected in archival documents, memoires, newspaper articles, visual art, literature, documentaries and films. It is expected that young scholars will address the subject from a range of perspectives based on the original documents and primary sources.
The central aim of the Symposium is to bring together young graduate students and researchers who will address a broad range of approaches to migration and cultural interaction from a different perspective and understanding. The study of migration and cultural interaction remains a high academic priority, as it becomes more of a historical, political, social and psychological focal point.
We would be pleased if you could e-mail (symposium@migration-and-cultural-interaction.org) us a 250-300-word abstract of your paper that reflects your methodology, sources used, main assumptions and a conclusion by December 19, 2017. You must also provide your full name, institutional affiliation, full address, email, telephone and fax numbers as well as a short biography. Please list any audio-visual equipment that you may need in presenting your paper.
We would request an electronic submission through filling an online application form that can be found on our website: http://www.migration-and-cultural-interaction.org The final date of submission for the abstracts is December 19, 2017. The proposals will be evaluated and its authors will be informed of their acceptance by January 15, 2018. The final date of submission for the full text of the paper will be February 5, 2018.
The registration fee is $US100. This will cover the conference dinner, refreshments and all conference material. Details of accommodation will be sent at a later date.
The conference website will be updated regularly for the participants and those who are interested in the symposium. Papers in English or Turkish will be welcomed.
