The aim of this interdisciplinary conference is to investigate musical numbers in fictional film and television with regard to issues such as affect, performance, musical and filmic style and structure, gender, or fan culture.

Deadline for abstracts/proposals: 30th April 2017 Welcome to the website for the international conference “When the Music Takes Over. Musical Numbers in Film and Television”, which will be hosted by the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, Austria, from 8 – 10 March 2018.
Confirmed Keynote speakers are Rajinder Dudrah (Birmingham City University), Richard Dyer (King’s College, London), and Amy Herzog (Queens College, New York).
The conference is organized as part of the Austrian Science Fund (FWF) project “The Austrian Music Film, 1912-1933” in collaboration with the Department for Art History, Musicology and Dance Studies at the University of Salzburg and the Kiel Society for Film Music Research. Registration for the Musical Moments Conference 2018 is now open!
Early Bird: The registration fee is 55 € (full) and 30 € (reduced rate) for graduate students and will last through February 15, 2018.
From February 16, late registration fees of 65 € (full) and 40 € (reduced rate) will be in effect.
All participants must register for the conference in advance; registration ends on March 1.
NOTE: The registration fee includes the conference program booklet, access to all keynotes and panels, and refreshments during breaks. The fee does not include accommodation, lunches, or the conference dinner. Students have to send proof of their status by email to salzburgconference2018@sbg.ac.at.
