Overview

People are living longer. The global population is expected to reach 10 billion by 2050, there are 256 birth every minute across the world and an estimated 2.5 million people in the UK living with cancer. From birth to death, we put our trust in medical specialists and the equipment they use to ensure we have a long and healthy life. But what of that cutting-edge technology? What lies behind the sensors, diagnostics tools and assistive equipment clinicians employ every day? And who are the people that conceive, create and maintain these life giving and saving devices?

Medical devices are at the cutting edge of engineering and design; bringing together an understanding of human anatomy and physiology, and the complexity of mathematics, electronics and mechanical systems.

If you have ever wondered how healthcare technology is designed, what it would be like to work in the med tech industry or with medical devices in a hospital, or you’re just curious about health and care, then why not attend, the IMechE’s International Women in Engineering Event in London on Thursday 22rd June 2017.

The Institution of Mechanical Engineers is proud to welcome a host of med tech professionals including engineers, designers and regulators to celebrate International Women in Engineering Day. At this event you will be able to share experiences, make new contacts and hear about the working lives of women in this diverse and growing sector.

The evening will begin with presentations from three of our guests, looking at health technology in research right through to future innovations.

Followed by a panel discussion where you get to ask our health technology professionals about their greatest engineering challenges and achievements and what the future holds for healthcare and engineering.
