This didactic, experiential and interactive 2-day, 15 hour workshop on Clinical Supervision meets the requirements for becoming an approved supervisor. The workshop will start with the basics, proceed through clinical skills and finish with the advanced skills needed to become an experienced supervisor.
Attendees will be able to:
- Distinguish between supervision, consultation and teaching
- Describe the major models of supervision currently being used
- Enumerate the various legal and ethical challenges of supervision
- Understand the responsibilities involved for both the supervisor and supervise
- Develop a contract with a supervise, define parameters and expectations and keep appropriate records for supervision
- Utilize evaluation methods as appropriate
- Demonstrate effective ways to structure the initial contact with supervises
- List and model techniques that will increase the effectiveness of the supervision process
- Identify ways to deal with "difficult" supervises
- Understand the process of the supervisory relationship
- Identify the developmental stages of the supervise, and know how to most effectively match supervisor style to the developmental stage of the supervise
- Conduct an evaluation of a supervise
- Develop a personal model for clinical supervision
- Refine skills in giving feedback to supervises
- Refine skills and increase confidence in dealing constructively with difficult supervises
There will be time for practice with feedback and a chance for people to address their supervision questions and challenges.
