Responsibilities:
Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which students alternate between academic study and work experiences. Due to increased growth in student enrollment at both the undergraduate and masters level within the Khoury College of Computer Sciences, the College is seeking an Assistant Co-op Education Coordinator & Employer Engagement Specialist. The candidate will focus on undergraduate student co-op support and the creation of co-op/internship assignments that provide quality work experiences for both undergraduate and Masters students. This position will fill a vacancy. You will join a team of 13 highly motivated, professional, collaborative individuals who provide an outstanding cooperative education program to Khoury College students. This position will report to, and work closely with, the Khoury College Assistant Director of Employer Engagement. It is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty position, working with students in the Khoury College of Computer Sciences.
Specific responsibilities will include:
1. Student Preparation.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator & Employer Engagement Specialist will prepare undergraduate students for their co-op assignments, maintain contact with students during the assignment, and reflect on the assignment upon students’ return to the University. Coordinators work with students in many venues including one-on-one, workshops, and classroom. They assist with interviewing skills, resume writing, communication skills, professional behavior, transitioning to the workplace, ethics, and other relevant learning objectives. Teach classes or lead workshops for students as needed.
2. Employer Relations/Job Development.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator & Employer Engagement Specialist is expected to develop partnerships with employers by working with executive, supervisory and human resources contacts. They will develop new and maintain ongoing co-op positions and an understanding of industry/field, employers, and positions. The position requires strengthening, establishing and cultivating relationships with employers through networking, site visits, alumni connections, faculty connections, parents, conferences, cold calls, etc. They are expected to conduct site visits to new and existing employers and to implement strategies to develop new and enhanced employer connections, including those outside of Massachusetts. In addition, supporting other co-op coordinators within the College will be expected. Experience with job development, developing client relationships and ability to promote cooperative education are critical for this position.
Qualifications:
Master’s degree with a minimum of 3
years’ experience in human resources, employer relations, job development or
related position. Strong interpersonal and communications skills to establish
and maintain effective employer and student relationships. Excellent written
skills with the ability to compose creative, concise communications which is
both informative and accurate. Demonstrated ability to work with a high level
of autonomy as well as collaborate successfully with team members. Proven
organizational and time management skills to prioritize and manage multiple
projects simultaneously, with shifting priorities. Strong presentation and
networking skills. Experience working or dealing with the high tech industry a
plus. Willingness to travel required.
Experience working with a diverse staff/student population, and a demonstrated
commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace is required.
They must have personal transportation and a valid driver’s license, as travel
to visit students and employers is required.
