Toyota’s Materials Engineering Department is looking for a passionate and highly-motivated Materials Engineering Organic Materials Engineer to work in the Exterior Organic Materials group.

The primary responsibility of this role is the evaluation and application of organic materials through the vehicle development process.

Reporting to the Materials Engineering Department Senior Manager, the person in this role will support the Materials Engineering Department's objective to apply innovative materials that meet customer and company needs.

What you’ll be doing

  • Collaborate with Toyota design engineers and suppliers to select the best materials for new vehicle exterior parts
  • Lead suppliers in the evaluation of new materials or part designs
  • Identify and develop innovative material solutions to reduce cost/mass and improve quality
  • Collaborate with Design and Quality engineers to identify and fix field quality issues

Qualifications

What you bring

  • Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience (Co-op/intern or full time) in the automotive or other plastics-oriented industry
  • Knowledge of polymeric and elastomeric material properties and evaluation
  • Understanding of plastic part manufacturing processes

Added bonus if you have

  • Master’s Degree (or higher) in Materials Science, Plastics Engineering, or Chemical Engineering
  • Experience working in a team setting to meet project goals
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems (root cause analysis) and come up with countermeasures
  • Knowledge of plastic part design principles
