Materials & Process Engineering Internships

UTC Aerospace Systems is seeking an intern candidate in Materials Engineering with the desire to work in an exciting, dynamic and fast paced environment. Joining our diverse and highly accomplished engineering team, you will work alongside some of the most exceptional professionals in the industry as you engage in complex, cutting-edge projects throughout their life cycle.

Additional Job Responsibilities May Include

Characterization and Failure Analysis:Failure modes in metals, plastics and composites. Mechanical behavior of metals, plastics and composites. Hands-on experience with analytical and failure analysis tools such as scanning electron (SEM), light optical microscopy (LOM), optical emission spectroscopy (OES), thermal analyses, and Fourier transform Infrared (FTIR). Also, physical, chemical, mechanical, and thermal characterization of composites, plastics, elastomers, and fluids; and recognition of environmentally responsible materials and finish processes.

Engineering Tool Development:Utilize conventional computer technology and applications to solve engineering analyses and manage regulatory and contractual compliance.

Engineering Evaluations:Apply professional knowledge of engineering principles and techniques, standardized mathematical methods, previous design and test information, and handbook data to the resolution of technical problems in order to obtain satisfactory results. Conduct laboratory and research investigations. Assist in the preparation of technical reports to summarize data and present conclusions. Responsibility includes the technical support of design/development applications activities and engineering investigations.

Qualifications

  • Ability to understand basic technical issues and develop solutions within scope of responsibilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Prior related internship experience highly preferred.
  • U.S. Citizenship or Permanent Residency.
Education

Pursuit of BS degree in Engineering; i.e., Materials Science, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering degrees, or equivalent in a related program of study at an accredited college or university.
