The Manufacturing Engineer will act as the bridge between the Baseball/Softball R&D team and production for new products and technologies, specifically as it relates to composite materials and manufacturing methods. This individual will be responsible for troubleshooting and investigating product issues when they arise on the floor.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty and responsibility satisfactorily:
- Evaluates manufacturing processes by designing and conducting research programs; applying knowledge of product design, assembly, tooling, and materials; conferring with equipment vendors; soliciting observations from operators
- Troubleshoot problems that arise on the production floor in conjunction with staff and supervisors
- Setup and manage an Engineering Change system to document, track, and communicate document running changes within a product life cycle
- Take processes that are currently in a Research & Development phase and be able to extrapolate and envision how these would transition into mass production while attempting to reduce bottlenecks and increase efficiencies.
- Sample new products & graphics with internal staff and external suppliers for sales meetings or marketing requirements
- Work closely with all areas of product development (graphics, R&D, fabrication, production) to ensure smooth product introductions
- Perform extensive engineering design analyses to determine appropriate targets and tolerances for product and component specifications
- Project management to include defining and documenting project parameters; developing, implementing, and monitoring project schedules; providing production and technical support in product design process
- Prepares product and process reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends
- Improves manufacturing efficiency by analyzing and planning work flow, space requirements, and equipment layout
- Plan, conduct and implement product research, development, prototyping and testing to create superior designs of new and/or upgraded products
- Works with the Manufacturing, Maintenance and Quality departments to review and monitor quality and process improvements as well as new product development.
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field
- 2-3 years related experience in manufacturing engineering
- Experience working with composite materials
- Equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor’s Degree
QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, ABILITIES & COMPETENCIES
- Strong working knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing methods.
- Demonstrated understanding of composite layup techniques laminates to include: pre-preg, compression, vacuum, and RTM.
- Confident and comfortable working with a wide variety of manufacturing processes and materials - this would include but not be limited to injection molded plastics, aluminum, and composite parts.
- Perform a variety of tasks which require basic knowledge of lamination techniques, materials, tools and equipment.
- Tooling or process design experience
- Comfortable with viewing technical drawings and an understanding of manufacturing tolerances
- Creative problem solver with a natural ability to identify root causes
- Knowledge of problem solving tools like FMEA, DMAIC, 8d, etc.
- Excellent planning and organizational skills
- Strong awareness of external trends and best practices and the ability to apply and adapt these new trends and technologies
- Ability to work effectively and efficiently towards goals in a complex, diverse, and constantly changing environment
- Demonstrated record of project management success
