Material World is seeking a driven and experienced Accountant who possesses a solid understanding of accounting and looking to work on a variety of tasks that are essential to the Controls of the company. The Accountant will maintain records of financial transactions, maintain chart of accounts, post transactions, perform month end reconciliations. This position works directly with management and requires someone with a can-do attitude and excellent attention to detail. The ideal candidate will have exemplary personal and professional integrity and demonstrate strong interpersonal skills. The candidate will be expected to work in our Brooklyn office.
Responsibilities:
Daily posting entries to the journal as needed, and manage Financial records
Maintain Chart of Accounts and make changes as needed
Manage Accounts Payable and bills payment process
Prepare weekly KPI reporting for management meeting and monthly KPI reporting for the board
Monitor key operational KPIs and report promptly when issues arise
Maintain historical records by properly filing documents
Prepares financial reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing account information and trends
Manage the month end close process by overseeing accounts payable transactions, and ensuring proper month-end cut-offs
Prepare month-end balance sheet account reconciliations
Perform monthly bank reconciliations
Manage Journal Entries at the month end close process
Manage Form 1099 for contractors
Manage various City or State Tax Preparation and Filing
Manage Budgeting vs Actual analysis
General Ledger Maintenance
Generate system reports for Financial Reporting
Assist with audit requests
Ensure that internal controls are consistently applied
Miscellaneous other duties as assigned
Skills & Qualifications:
Minimum of 3 years of bookkeeping experience, Bachelors Degree in Accounting
Strong Accounting background required
Experience with accounting for physical inventory is a plus
Experience with payroll accounting is a plus
Strong computer skills (databases and accounting software) MS Office Applications, Excel
Must have experience with QuickBooks
Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles
Detailed-oriented & strong organizational skills
High degree of accuracy and has knack for numbers
Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with other departments
Seeking someone with startup experience
Compensation: $40,000-$50,000/year, commensurate with experience
