Job Description
The Department of Chemistry at the United Arab Emirates University (UAEU) is seeking applications for a full-time research assistant to investigate the production of novel fructosyltransferase (FTF) enzymes from halophilic archaea. The successful candidate will be offered a two years position in research project supported by a UAEU research council. The candidate will be involved in a project investigating biochemical properties of the FTF enzymes from halophilic microorganisms and synthesis of diverse fructo-oligosaccharides (FOS) using different substrates. The goal of the project is to exploit the unique nature of halophilic FTFs with the probability of producing unique polysaccharides for industrial applications. Molecular biology techniques coupled with physical techniques like XRD, MS and NMR to characterize the enzymatic product will be used in the project.

Minimum Qualification
Highly self-motivated candidates with Masters/M.phil in Biochemistry/Biotechnology with strong academic track record and relevant experience in molecular biology (cloning, electrophoresis, protein purification, enzyme assays, mass spectrometry, basic bioinformatics) are encouraged to apply. Practical experience with XRD and NMR would be advantageous.

Preferred Qualification
Candidates with experience in PCR, electrophoresis, microbial cell culture, protein purification techniques, enzyme assays, TLC, mass spectrometry are required. However, candidates having experience in XRD, NMR and homology modelling would be preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills in English and ability to work well in collaborative environment with skills in networking are highly advantageous.
