Responsibilities:

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which
students alternate between academic study and employment experiences. This is a full
time, non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Cooperative Coordinator rank.
The D’Amore-McKim School of Business generates impactful knowledge and develops
leaders who will shape business in domains not yet discovered. Three distinctive
mindsets – global, entrepreneurial, and lifelong learning – are at the core of the
D’Amore-McKim vision of the future. Cooperative education and experiential learning
are central to the experience of every D’Amore-McKim student providing them with
the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real world context.
Employer Relations/Job Development: The Assistant Cooperative Education
Coordinator develops partnerships with international employers outside of the United
States by working with managers and human resources contacts; develops new and
maintains recurring international co-op positions; engages in lifelong learning to
develop and maintain a current understanding of the industry/field, employers, and
positions. Addresses questions regarding visa requirements, international restrictions,
and travel advisories. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and
experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential. Possesses
strong cultural agility. Prior professional experience living and working abroad, is
preferred. Serves as liaison to the Global Experience Office (GEO) and Global Employer
Relations (GER).
Education of Students: The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator educates
students through the career development process with a specific focus on the
students’ co-op search. The Coordinator teaches a career education course each
semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom
preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, resume writing, professional
behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and soft skills development with a
focus on Northeastern’s Self-Authored Integrated Learning (SAIL) framework.
The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator also maintains contact with students
while engaged in their co-op experience, and works with students through their postco-op reflection.
Manages process to ensure that international students are fully authorized for co-op
work experiences in the United States and globally.
Service: The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator also engages in service to
the Cooperative Education department, D’Amore-McKim School of Business, and to
Northeastern University. Service includes making presentations to prospective
students and newly admitted students; participation on committees and task forces;
and serving as an advisor to student organizations.
Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic
experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is
enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom learning.
The Coordinator will collaborate with academic faculty, administration, and the co-op
community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and academic
experiences. The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator shares knowledge of
industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based learning with
curriculum-based learning.

Qualifications:

Required
• A master’s degree or its academic equivalent is required, and a minimum of five
years of professional work experience.
• Experience as a career coach, certification preferable, but not required.
• Experience teaching in a classroom environment.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills, and comfort presenting to diverse
audiences.
• Experience working with a diverse staff and/or student population and a
demonstrated commitment to achieving and maintaining diversity in the workplace.
• Proficiency in computer/technology and database maintenance, and strong
organizational skills.
Preferred
• An academic degree in a related business profession, or experience in an
international context.
• Knowledge of cooperative education and/or experiential learning.
• Experience working with an international student population
