Role

In the project of the optimized bus, the Mechanical Engineer – Powertrain is responsible for and takes part in the development of vehicle cooling systems. Responsibilities include guiding design and ensuring technical integrity, as well as advising the organization to help it maintain its technological leadership. They are stewards of the product.

Responsibilities

  • Take part in design reviews;
  • Build and update design files, including calculations, testing, verifications, validations, and approvals;
  • Check and approve new concepts;
  • Cooperate with and get involved in continuous improvement activities;
  • Organize and plan activities related to development projects as a team member or leader;
  • Monitor technological developments in the field;
  • Meet with suppliers and customers;
  • Provide technical support to designers;
  • Calculate the cost of every new development;
  • Involve suppliers in product development;
  • Lead development projects based on Volvo’s GDP methodology.

Education And Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering;
  • 5 years of relevant experience in powertrain product development, preferably in the transportation or automotive industry;
  • Experience in cooling systems and heat management;
  • Member of Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec.

Knowledge And Skills

  • Strong communication skills;

  • Ability to work under pressure and lead several projects concurrently;
  • Knowledge of the transit industry, its standards, suppliers, and customers;
  • Knowledge of project management;
  • Knowledge of product development methods, including functional analysis, risk management, and tight timeline compliance;
  • Knowledge of problem-solving methods (8D);
  • Proficiency with CATIA V5 mechanical software;
  • Proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite and knowledge of a technical data management system (Kola);
  • Bilingualism (English/French).
