The School of Science Engineering and Health at Messiah College is accepting applications for Lecturer, Visiting Assistant Professor, or Assistant Professor, or advanced ranks in Engineering. An advanced degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering with evidence of strong teaching capabilities is required. Candidates with a PhD will be eligible for appointment to a term-tenure track position. A particular area of need is an ability to teach Control Systems Engineering.
Responsibilities: Teach introductory to advanced undergraduate engineering classes in the candidate’s area of expertise. The department’s greatest need currently is in Mechanical Engineering – Control Systems, but a candidate who is flexible and able to contribute to many areas of the curriculum is strongly preferred. The candidate will be expected to teach in the Engineering core curriculum, as well, and to advise student project teams. Projects are administered through the Collaboratory for Strategic Partnerships and Applied Research (www.messiah.edu/collaboratory). The Collaboratory also provides a service and scholarship outlet for Engineering faculty. Faculty should contribute to departmental and College service needs, including academic advising for students.
Qualifications: Advanced degree (PhD for term-tenure track or Visiting Assistant Professor; Masters for Lecturer) in Mechanical Engineering or closely related field. Candidates must evidence the potential for strong classroom teaching and a commitment to pursuing their ongoing scholarship in partnership with students within the Collaboratory at Messiah College. As many of the department’s applied research programs involve applications in developing countries, international development interest and experience is a plus.
The Program: Messiah College’s Engineering department offers an ABET accredited Bachelor of Science in Engineering degree with concentrations in Biomedical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Environmental and Mechanical Engineering.
The Department: Our eleven faculty (nine PhDs), three full time technicians and over 280 students work on projects related to clean water access, alternative energy, technical resources for people living with disability, bridges, communications (flight tracking systems) and biomedical instruments and processes in over eight developing countries in Africa, Central and South America.
