The Department
The Department of English and Writing Studies is one of four departments within University College. Through its innovative general education core curriculum, University College offers students a high-quality, foundational program, designed to prepare them for their future majors and professional careers. The experience instills in the students a desire for lifelong learning, fosters intellectual curiosity, and engenders critical thinking. The General Education Program initiates the baccalaureate careers of all ZU students and has as its goal to build students’ understanding of their relationship with the world and to equip them to be successful at the University, in their professions and in their personal lives through an integrated, skill-rich, interdisciplinary core curriculum.

The Department of English and Writing Studies is currently responsible for providing instruction to students to help them improve their written and oral English language skills. Faculty in the department help develop the English language competency of students in the general education program. Departmental instruction ensures that students meet the University’s standards on the use of the English language at entry into the baccalaureate program. The department has the primary responsibility for delivering the Zayed University Learning Outcomes for the beginning use of the English language by all its graduates.

The Opportunity
The Department of English and Writing Studies is seeking Master’s level instructors with terminal degrees in English, Linguistics, Applied Linguistics, or TEFL and who will be able to contribute to teaching English composition to non-native speakers of English. The successful candidate must demonstrate excellence in teaching and be conversant in English as a Second Language pedagogies in composition. Candidates will demonstrate excellence in student-centered teaching, and they will be committed to ensuring student success. We seek faculty who possess a strong commitment to teaching the University’s core curriculum and are advocates of general education as understood in the US model of education.

Candidates will be familiar with a composition curriculum for second language learners; they will value teaching introductory-level writing courses and will be expected to contribute to an ongoing process of curricular revision. The teaching load at Zayed University is established at five courses per semester for instructors.
