Education, Degree(s), or Certifications Required:

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university; Mechanical Engineering

Four (4) to fifteen (15) years of design experience, or PE

Detailed Job Description:

Individuals in this position are responsible for planning, organizing, and performing detailed engineering design. This position receives general administrative direction from the division manager and is responsible for the mechanical design of a few projects of varying complexity. Individual may support other engineers or project managers. Research applicable industry standards, prepare engineering studies, analysis of systems, preliminary and detailed engineering designs. Develop engineering specifications. Review work of project design team, check progress of work and alert managers to change of scope and additional services. Coordinate some aspects of project document completion. Direct CAD designers for the preparation of construction drawings. Possess ability to interpret applicable codes. Work with code officials and other design professionals when an interpretation or exception to codes is required. Coordinate project design with other engineering disciplines and clients.

Qualifications:

• Four (4) to fifteen (15) years of design experience helping to create construction documents for buildings and facilities projects. Projects may include commercial, laboratory, industrial or health care.

• Capable of providing field surveys in order to document existing building conditions.

• Capable of performing cooling and heating load calculations.

• Capable of performing ventilation calculations using the ventilation rate procedure (VRP).

• Capable of performing COMcheck calculations.

• Capable of performing ductwork and piping pressure drop calculations.

• Capable of performing ductwork, piping and plumbing layouts.

• Capable of interpreting Building and Fire Codes, and/or working with code officials.

• Capable of providing equipment selections and drawing specifications for air devices, terminal units, expansion tanks, water heaters and plumbing fixtures, pumps, fans, and packaged air handing units.

• Capable of providing construction administration support for equipment noted above.

• Capable of providing equipment details.

• Capable of providing basic control sequences.

Candidates must have experience with the following software:

• Microsoft Office applications – Word, Excel and PowerPoint

• Familiarity or ability to utilize load calculations software such as Carrier HAPP or Trane Trace.

• Familiarity or ability to utilize COMcheck.

• AutoCAD or Revit experience is a plus (ability to open drawings, navigate, edit text, and print)
