Concordia University’s Centre for Engineering in Society (CES) of the Faculty of Engineering and Computer Science is dedicated to educating engineers and computer scientists who are technically skilled and fully aware of their professional responsibilities to society and the environment. Fundamental to this broad mandate, CES offers courses in Technical Communication, Professionalism and Ethics, and the Impact of Technology on Society.

CES invites applications for a Tenure Track faculty position to promote this core mandate, particularly in the area of Technical Communication. The qualified candidate will coordinate, develop and teach graduate and undergraduate courses in communication instruction, as well as offer regular workshops for PhD candidates in the Faculty’s various academic departments. The successful candidate is expected to establish an active program of research in support of the role of technical communication and engineering pedagogy in the central mission of CES.

The candidate will ideally hold a Ph.D. in rhetoric, critical thinking, or another discipline related to sound argumentation and professional communication. The chosen candidate will possess experience in university teaching, preferably with large enrollment sections. Coordination and supervision of instruction and teaching assistants over multi-section courses and assessment of student writing ability is highly desired. Participation in the assessment of graduate attributes established by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board (CEAB) and evidence of productive research program appropriate to time in rank will be considered assets.

Under the provisions of the current CUFA Collective Agreement, performance in tenure track positions is evaluated in terms of teaching, research and service to the unit. The chosen candidate’s teaching will consist of teaching courses within the core mission; service will consist of advising students and coordinating instruction. The candidate’s research will ideally contribute to knowledge in the field of technical and professional communication and engineering pedagogy.

The appointment is expected to commence in August 2017.Submission will consist of: (i) a cover letter, (ii) a current curriculum vitae, (iii) a statement of the applicant’s understanding of the pedagogy of socially responsible innovation and entrepreneurship (iv) evidence of teaching effectiveness and (v) the names of four referees.
