Responsibilities:

Northeastern University is a national leader in cooperative education in which

students alternate between academic study and employment experiences. This is a

full time, non-tenure track faculty position at the Assistant Cooperative

Coordinator rank.

The D’Amore-McKim School of Business generates impactful knowledge and

develops leaders who will shape business in domains not yet discovered. Three

distinctive mindsets – global, entrepreneurial, and lifelong learning – are at the

core of the D’Amore-McKim vision of the future. Cooperative education and

experiential learning are central to the experience of every D’Amore-McKim

student providing them with the opportunity to apply classroom learning in a real

world context.

Employer Relations/Job Development: The Assistant Cooperative Education

Coordinator develops partnerships with employers by working with managers and

human resources contacts; develops new and maintains recurring co-op positions;

engages in lifelong learning to develop and maintain a current understanding of

the industry/field, employers, and positions. Activities to support this endeavor

include site visits to new and existing employers, outreach to potential new co-op

employer partners, and engagement in relevant professional development

opportunities. High-level customer-orientation, strong presentation skills, and

experience in building and maintaining client relationships is essential. Prior

professional experience in industry, particularly finance, is preferred.

Education of Students: The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator educates

students through the career development process with a specific focus on the

students’ co-op search. The Coordinator teaches a career education course each

semester, and coaches students through group and individual meetings. Classroom

preparation includes teaching interviewing skills, resume writing, professional

behavior and communication, workplace ethics, and soft skills development with a

focus on Northeastern’s Self-Authored Integrated Learning (SAIL) framework.

The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator also maintains contact with

students while engaged in their co-op experience, and works with students

through their post-co-op reflection.

Service: The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator also engages in service

to the Cooperative Education department, D’Amore-McKim School of Business,

and to Northeastern University. Service includes making presentations to

prospective students and newly admitted students; participation on committees

and task forces; and serving as an advisor to student organizations.

Integrated Learning: Cooperative education is an integral part of the academic

experience at Northeastern and our philosophy is that learning in the classroom is

enriched by practical experience, and practical experience enriches classroom

learning. The Coordinator will collaborate with academic faculty, administration,

and the co-op community to guide students in the integration of their co-op and

academic experiences. The Assistant Cooperative Education Coordinator shares

knowledge of industry with academic faculty to integrate employment-based

learning with curriculum-based learning.
