Position Summary
This position reports to the Media Preservation Librarian and will work remotely from supervisor, it will be expected that the employee report daily to the supervisor with an arrival email outlining work plans and goals for the day and a departure email stating what was accomplished. A workspace will be assigned in University Archives at Conrad Hall, although a significant amount of time will be spent in the Archives storage areas at both Conrad and Wells Halls to conduct the survey of materials. This position is focused on the preservation of media collections at the MSU Libraries and University Archives.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities include:
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in an office setting; experience with database, spreadsheet, word processing, library automation system support; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. May require recent experience in an academic library.
Desired Qualifications
Competency in a scripting language such as python; knowledge of various formats of media, including audio (cassette tapes, reel-to-reel and digital formats); analog images, (8mm and 16mm moving pictures, historic and modern photography processes); and video formats (VHS, Betacam, Umatic, etc); knowledge of preservation theory and practice; strong organizational skills; experience in inventory control; clear and direct communicator; detail-oriented; ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
