At Shopkick, the leading in-store shopping app in the USA, we are looking for an experienced Engineering Manager to lead and inspire a full-stack team of 4-6 engineers. If you love the challenge and fun of scaling a mobile/server system used by millions of people, read on!

  • Have a solid architectural and software design background in client/server systems, preferably mobile

In a typical week you might ...

  • Put your architectural background to work designing new systems and features
  • Ensure solid programming principles are at play by coaching the team and pair programming with people
  • Write exemplary code that shows people the way
  • Suggest optimizations and improvements to the leadership team that can be made across the entire code base and production system
  • Coordinate with design, product, QA, and data analysis to ensure that sprints run hassle free
  • Step up your people skills supporting a talented and passionate set of engineers

We are looking for ...

  • 8+ years of experience designing and implementing large scale software
  • 3+ of which is experience managing people
  • Strong coding ability in an object oriented language (preferably Python)
  • Excellent knowledge of Linux based systems management, debugging and troubleshooting
  • Deep understanding of the uses and characteristics of common server infrastructure technologies (e.g. Zookeeper, Memcached, Docker, DC/OS, Hadoop/HDFS)
  • Deep experience with SQL (MySQL preferred)
  • Excellent team player with strong communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Enthusiastic about collaborative problem solving
  • Bachelor’s degree or better in Computer Science
