Identifies and evaluates opportunities to create value for Tesoro through acquisitions, enhancement of existing assets, or development of projects consistent with Tesoro’s strategic direction on behalf of Retail Marketing.

Responsibilities:

  • Identifies and facilitates business development activities on behalf of the Marketing organization. Maintains high level of awareness of developments in mid-stream and downstream industries focusing on identification of opportunities with commercial viability and synergies with existing assets. Develops and maintains strong industry relationships.
  • Facilitates strategic alignment and prioritization of business improvement initiatives for Retail Marketing assets and the business as a whole. Leads cross-functional teams in evaluating business performance against competitive benchmarks to identify gaps. Develops business improvement plan to address competitive gaps and maximize asset value such as, but not limited to, acquiring assets, merging with other businesses, expanding infrastructure to unleash value, evaluating growth opportunities in new markets, exploring new relationships and revenue streams and divesting of non-performing assets.
  • Directs complex economic evaluations coordinating development of financial models in collaboration with Strategy, Finance and Corporate Analytics.
  • Recommends actions based on asset valuation and fit with strategic plans. Prepares business case for review and decision by executive management. Leads activities for acquisition and merger processes. Creates due diligence and action plan with relevant milestones and appropriate measurements.
    • Leads negotiations maintaining confidentiality and using discretion regarding “need to know”.
    • Directs due diligence activities and integration planning. Works with General Counsel to prepare requisite legal documents.
    • Originate acquisition and merger opportunities by leveraging industry awareness, understanding of Tesoro’s strategic direction, and relationships.
    • Maintain fluid communication and frequent interaction with Investment Bankers to understand M&A activity and trends.
  • Provides input into and development of asset, business and regional strategies including preparation of analysis, recommendations, and presentation for the executive committee and boards of directors.

EDUCATION & Experience:

  • Minimum undergraduate degree in Engineering, Economics, Business Administration, or related field required.
  • MBA preferred.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience in progressively responsible roles in business development, marketing, commercial, or related roles. Experience with mergers and acquisitions for mid-stream or down-stream energy industries required.

  • Thorough understanding of Retail Marketing and c-store environment
  • Strong analytical, forecasting and negotiation skills
  • Ability to take projects from initial stages to completion
  • Knowledge of real estate values.
  • Ability to build relationships with 3rd party vendors
