We call this The New Intelligence. IHS Markit serves more than 50,000 key customers in more than 140 countries, including 80 percent of the Fortune Global 500.

We help decision makers apply higher-level thinking to daily tasks and strategic issues across a host of industries and disciplines including energy, finance, automotive, engineering, technology, maritime and trade, aerospace and defence, chemical, and economics and country risk. Headquartered in London, IHS Markit (Nasdaq: INFO) is committed to sustainable, profitable growth.

We are seeking a research associate to join IHS Markit Country Risk’s Asia-Pacific team in assessing political, security and business risks in Asian countries. The analyst will be based in London but help clients across regions and sectors make business decisions with succinct written briefings, regular personal interactions, and in-person presentations based on ongoing, in-depth research.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assessment and surveillance of tightly defined country risks across selected Asian countries. These will include government stability, expropriation, contract risks, regulatory risks, terrorism, civil unrest, and war.
  • Specific, reasoned forecasts of country risk events. These could include out-of-cycle elections, politicised discrimination against private sector firms, or terrorist targeting of commercial assets.
  • Collaborate closely with our team of economists to ensure our economic and country risk views cohere; collaborate with other IHS Market business lines to produce sector-specific risk assessments.
  • Maintain existing and develop new relationships with an extensive source and contributor network, tasking as appropriate to enrich our country risk analysis.
  • Mine our extensive proprietary datasets to develop new commercial offerings, including structured intelligence streams, risk mapping, social media metrics, and economic and financial projections.
  • Communicate ‘house views’ to current and prospective clients through in-person briefings, presentations and bespoke research.
  • Work with our Sales and Marketing teams to support IHS Markit’s commercial expansion.

REQUIRED SKILLS

  • Demonstrable knowledge of political, economic, and business environments in Asia based on living in-region for several years, preferably China and southeast Asia, and a strong local network of contacts.
  • Business fluency in a major Asian language, ideally Mandarin.
  • Business-fluent drafting and speaking skills in English.
  • Advanced degree in economics or business, ideally including applied modules, and familiarity with basic accounting principles for balance sheets and profit and loss sheets.
  • A proven methodological approach to political, security, and business analysis using large and disparate datasets.
  • Quantitative analytical skills, including regression techniques and competency with Stata (or a similar statistical analysis package like R).
  • Strong presentation skills, including familiarity with Tableau and geo-intelligence packages like QGIS.

EXPERIENCE

  • Extensive relevant experience in industry, ideally with exposure to several sectors.

All applicants will be tested with analytical tasks to help us understand their suitability for this role.
