Job Description:

The Assistant Director, Aging Studies Institute provides support that is critical to the mission of the Syracuse University Aging Studies Institute (ASI). Reporting to the ASI Director, the Assistant Director manages the day-to-day operations of ASI and provides administrative support to ASIfaculty associates and graduate students in the preparation of proposal submissions to secure external research funding. The Assistant Director is responsible for the fiscal administration and financial reporting of ASIaccounts; supervises the ASI Administrative Assistant and Grants Manager; helps navigate internal policies and processes, sponsor-specific guidelines and systems, and federal-wide policy regarding sponsored activities; develops proposal budgets; prepares application documents; reviews applications for adherence to sponsor guidelines and compliance with University policies; secures approvals for proposals; and coordinates final review and submission with the Office of Sponsored Programs. The Assistant Director also assists with applications for internal funding and provides post-award administrative support, as needed.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of transferable experience required.

• Prior involvement in grant submission and administration required, with a strong preference for experience working with research-active faculty who have NIH awards that support large, collaborative projects.

• Prior office experience in an academic environment and supervising staff preferred.
