JOB DESCRIPTION:

Supports Product Engineering, Process Innovation and Advanced Manufacturing, and Manufacturing Operations globally.

Independently, performs various complex and non-routine, standard and non-standard engineering duties which include leading manufacturing and process innovation activities, planning and design of new products and processes, improving manufacturing methods, supporting design changes and actively interfaces with customers and suppliers to maximize manufacturing capabilities.

Assignments require considerable knowledge of management practice and policy interpretation or a combination of education and experience that develops technical capability to independently evaluate, select and apply techniques and standards.

SCOPE:

Provides material expertise to support global organization including product design, manufacturing process issues, quality issues, and product/process innovation initiatives.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide expert knowledge of materials, non-destructive testing, destructive testing, heat treatment, coating, forming, stretch bending, extrusion, industry standards and all other common industry processes for metallic materials. Non-metallic materials are a plus.
  • Characterize and select materials to meet customer and engineering requirements.
  • Provide expertise to analyze product and process failures and provideand implementcost effective solutions.
  • Support innovation and advanced process development forall products.
  • Identify newmaterial andprocess technologies to drive innovative ideas.
  • Network with suppliers, research organizations, and educational organizations globally to leverage new technology.
  • Support DFMEA andPFMEAinitiatives.
  • Continually improveproduct and processes tofacilitate increased profit potential and cost reductions.
  • Establish and implements standards, documentation and procedures for new productsand processesto ensure manufacturing capabilities,quality assurance andconformance tocustomer specifications.
  • Assist process engineers in planning, developing and quoting of new products for profit potential and manufacturing feasibility.
  • Assists in development of design and process guidelines and best practices.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in aMaterial Science, Metallurgy, Chemistry, or equivalentscientific field
  • Five to eight years of related experience.
  • Strong understanding of steel, aluminum, and stainless steel. Basic understanding of automotive polymers.
  • Understandingbasicsof Six Sigma Methodologies
  • Historyimplementing new materials and resolving major issues in an automotive setting.
  • Ability to manage multiple products and tasks as required to meet demanding customer deadlines
