Position Title: Soybean Breeder

Position Rank: Assistant/Associate Professor, 12-month appointment, Tenure Track

Location: University of Arkansas, Fayetteville, Arkansas

Appointment: 90% Research; 10% Teaching

Date Available: April 2017

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include developing an externally funded comprehensive, statewide, basic and applied research program in soybean breeding and genetics. The individual will be responsible for leading a large state-wide program for improvement of traditional as well as food grade (including edamame) soybean genotypes. The candidate should have a strong commitment to undergraduate and graduate student education and training as well as participating in departmental activities. Teaching responsibilities will include an undergraduate course in soybean production and a graduate-level course in the applicant’s area of expertise. Supervision of graduate student thesis and dissertation research will be expected. Liaison with other scientists, stakeholders, and industry will also be expected of the applicant.

Qualifications: A doctorate degree in plant breeding or a closely related discipline is required (by date of hire). Must demonstrate the ability to work with groups as well as with individuals; to communicate effectively, both verbal and written; to interpret and apply research results; have desire to work independently and collaboratively with other research and extension faculty. Preference will be given to individuals who have experience in both applied breeding and quantitative methods for gene discovery, marker assisted breeding and genomic selection. The candidate must have a strong record of academic achievement which demonstrates productive potential, including peer-reviewed publications, ability to obtain extramural funding and teaching experience. The individual must have flexibility to travel throughout the state.

Salary: Competitive, commensurate with experience and training
