Job Summary:
Registered Nurses on 7Main at UK Chandler Hospital provide care for
progressive care surgical (primarily colorectal and urology) and epilepsy
monitoring patients. Patient conditions include uncontrolled and undiagnosed
seizures as well as recovery from medical surgical procedures including
gastrointestinal, vascular, abdominal, kidney and liver surgery. The Medical
Surgical and Epilepsy Monitoring unit provides comprehensive inpatient
progressive care for medical surgical recovery patients and
extended EEG and video monitoring of seizure activity. As a part of
this unit, the RN serves as an important component of the acute care team. This
team is responsible for the diagnosis and treatment of multiple medical and
surgical disease complications and treatment of patients suffering from
seizures.
The primary responsibilities for this position consist of providing total,
comprehensive, continuous and patient centered care which includes: assessing,
documenting, planning, implementing, teaching, developing, and evaluating a
comprehensive nursing plan of care; delivering direct patient care; ensuring
patient satisfaction; training and delegating duties for Nursing Care
Technicians (Nursing Assistant); and adhering to University policies and
procedures as well as federal, state and local regulations. Furthermore, this
environment supports collaborative efforts among the nursing staff and the team
of physicians to increase communication and enhance expected patient outcomes.
This includes utilization of the nursing process in conjunction with a
comprehensive patient-centered plan of care, ensuring patient satisfaction.
