Martins Construction Corp. has an open Project Engineer / Assistant Project Manager position for a qualified individual in Heavy Highway Construction, mainly the construction and rehabilitation of bridges. The applicant must possess strong analytical, organizational, planning and communication skills with a commitment to high standards, integrity and ethics. Degree in Civil Engineering or Construction Management is a must. This position is intended to serve as an intense hands-on learning experience to prepare the candidate’s successful transition into semi-independent and independent Project Management roles in 1 to 2 years respectively (individual candidates’ commitment and performance are the key determinant of the duration of such transition).
Role and responsibilities will include:
- Perform quantity takeoffs and based upon all information, assist in estimating the project using estimating software
- Upon successfully bidding the project, transfer or direct transfer of information from estimating software to job costing software
- Solicit proposals from vendors and subcontractors
- Perform or direct generation of subcontracts and purchase orders for projects
- Read and understand the plans and specifications and utilize the knowledge for effective execution of project tasks
- Communicate roll out of project with Project Managers & Superintendents
- Prepare and direct submittals and RFIs to clients as required for construction of projects
- Review of job cost information as it becomes available – Verify accuracy and completeness, and address and/or correct as necessary
- Visit project site to observe, measure and control progress
- Attend routine subcontractor and owner meetings
- Communicate and assist in enforcing safe working standards on projects
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned from time to time
Other qualifications:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong prioritization and organizational skills; detail-oriented
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office
- Strong knowledge and experience with Primavera Scheduling Software and the keen familiarity with the rules and principals of CPM scheduling and delay apportionment
- Prior education or experience-based knowledge of the principles of Contract Management, Claim Analysis and Dispute Resolution
- Prior education or experience based familiarity with the alternative delivery methods, such as Design-Builds, and the process of preparing RFPs
