Job Description

Summary:

Responsible for utilizing professionally accepted engineering principles and techniques to engineer and oversee all aspects of ceramic material manufacturing, process/product implementation and quality control. Also responsible for understanding and managing internal materials related customer requirements.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Independently applies accepted engineering principles, efficiently completes assigned tasks and confers with supervisor on complex matters, specific assignment objectives, points of emphasis or possible solutions as-needed in the production of ceramic related materials
  • Utilizes a strong understanding of manufacturing techniques and associated equipment design and experience to develop new processes or formula changes/modifications to meet new customer requirements
  • Determines supplier and material specifications, documents/implements alternative suppliers as appropriate
  • Assists internal customers with external customer requirements and problems
  • Develops and maintains complete and accurate written records and process documentation for new products, processes and improvements to existing product and/or processes
  • Provides cost and manufacturing information to management
  • Focuses on increasing process efficiency by actively participating in continuous improvement activities through research, benchmarking and identification of improved methods or tools, and customer interaction
  • Prepares mill cards and releases materials to internal customers. Makes substitutions within AMP process of record and makes decisions on how to handle deviated materials
  • Assists in developing, implementing, and improving production/processing methods and controls to cost-effectively meet expected outcomes. Verifies outcomes and/or courses of action with appropriate personnel prior to taking action
  • Directs and provides equipment, software and process training/cross-training
  • Oversees manufacturing processes and effectively utilizes SPC tools (i.e. control charts, DOE’s, etc.) to maintain and improve product and process quality
  • Works closely with internal customers to provide technical support and timely initial response on issues. Follows through and oversees effective and timely CAR responses and completions
  • Participates in and/or performs process and product audits and assists with supplier audits from a technical perspective
  • Performs and coaches process control and engineering functions
  • Assists and/or performs in any and all areas as assigned
  • May work any and all shifts/days as required

Education

Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Ceramics, Materials or other related field and minimum 6 years’ related materials engineering experience

Functional/Technical Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Has a working understanding of materials and characteristics, including material formulations, finished material processing, and material quantification and characterization
  • Exhibits strong interpersonal and organizational skills, great attention to detail as well as excellent listening, verbal and written communication skills
  • Must be able to work with a diverse variety of people from different cultures and backgrounds
