The American University of Sharjah Performing Arts Program invites applications for a one-year visiting faculty position, with the possibility of renewal for a full-time, three-year faculty position in Arabic music. Responsibilities include teaching three classes per semester for undergraduate students, leading the AUS Arabic Ensemble, and developing a concert each semester. The faculty member is also expected to conduct scholarly and creative activities, and engage in university service as assigned.
Other teaching responsibilities will be assigned based on background and departmental needs, but could include courses in music history and/or applied lessons in a specific area. Suitable candidates are required to have an established reputation as performer and scholar, a record of successful teaching at the university level, and must demonstrate commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff and students from diverse ethnic and cultural backgrounds. An earned doctorate (DMA or Ph.D. preferred) or equivalent in music from an accredited institution is required. Applicants nearing completion of the doctorate (ABD) may be considered. Applicants must be committed to undergraduate education and demonstrate the potential for excellence in teaching and scholarship with undergraduates.
The new faculty member will contribute to the sustainability, growth and development of the Performing Arts Program’s (music and theatre) artistic goals, and serve on college and/or university-wide committees.
