Job Description:

The Senior Associate Vice President and Deputy University Secretary (Sr.AVP/Deputy Sec) will join the Office of the Board of Trustees, supporting the governance work of the University’s Board of Trustees, under the leadership of the Senior Vice President and University Secretary (SrVP/Univ Sec).

The Office of the Board of Trustees coordinates and facilitates the activities of the Board and its Standing Committees to ensure the effective and efficient operation of the University’s system of governance. In addition, the Office supports University Leadership in its strategy work through both communications with the Board and work with its Standing Committees. It also serves as a general information and communication center to members of the Board of Trustees and the University’s Senior Leaders.

The Sr.AVP/Deputy Sec is accountable for the following:
• Enabling good governance at all Standing Committee meetings for which the Sr.AVP/Deputy Sec is accountable.
• Participating in the strategy of the University through assigned Standing Committees by enabling the development of annual goals and priorities consistent with the relevant University Leaders’ strategy.
• Developing the Committees’ agendas as related to governance and oversight of the University.
• Working with University Leadership and Committee Chairs to develop goals for the year and Committee agendas that will enable those goals to be met.
• Supporting the SrVP/Univ Sec. for all Board and Board Committee meetings, events, activities and ad hoc affairs.
• Representing the SrVP/Univ Sec. on all matters, if needed.

The Senior Associate Vice President/Deputy University Secretary partners and works closely with Board Committee Chairs and University Leaders, including the Offices of the Provost, the Chief Financial Officer, Enrollment and the Student Experience, and the General Counsel. This leader also works closely with the Senior Vice President and University Secretary, the Chair of the Board, the Chancellor, and Senior Administrators, as well as with the Associate University Secretary/Executive Director of the Office of the Board of Trustees, including as related to general Office and Board operations and all Board meetings and events.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree required, JD preferred and a minimum of ten (10) years of work experience, preferably in an academic environment or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• High degree of motivation and professionalism, dedication to a high level of service when working with diverse constituencies both on and off campus; proficiency in prioritization and handling multiple responsibilities.

• Decisive, visionary, entrepreneurial leader, effective administrator, and exceptional motivator who promotes an environment of open communication, transparency and delegated authority.

• Excellent verbal, written, and communication skills are required; i.e., the ability to communicate effectively verbally and through written correspondence, including aptitude for drafting and editing minutes, memoranda, and reports; as well as in communicating with individuals one-on-one.
