As part of the Policy Support Observatory activities, the Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS) of the American University of Beirut currently seeks a candidate for a Research Assistant- Civil Registration and Vital Statistics (CRVS) Coordinator to improve the Quality of Health Indicators, Vital and Health Statistics Department.

PSO background
The Policy Support Observatory (PSO) is a tripartite partnership between the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH), the World Health Organization, and the American University of Beirut launched on 16, April 2018, and hosted within the MoPH.

Job Description
Under the guidance and direct supervision of the head of the statistics department (Ms. Hilda Harb), the CRVS program coordinator will be responsible to coordinate the various activities related to standardized online reporting of vital health indicators from the district and hospital levels. The Coordinator will also be responsible to present the data in meaningful aggregated forms that will inform policies and strengthen the health governance of the sector.

​Tasks to be Performed
Complete and accurate update of vital statistics data records from the district level.
1. Training districts' focal points on how to properly report data using the Qada office system.
2. Generate monthly and yearly vital statistics. Extract demographic and socioeconomic determinants and health status indicators from the overall collected data.
3. Estimate the Lebanese population size based on data from the Central Administration of Statistics and the Ministry of Interior.
4. Collaborate with external stakeholders to improve the CRVS reporting processes

Complete and accurate update of vital statistics data records from hospitals.

- Training hospitals' focal points on how to properly report the cause of death data using the Hospital-based Mortality System.
- Generate weekly, monthly and yearly mortality statistics.
- Analyze and visualize the reported mortality data, then extract health status indicators.
- Synthesize and present statistical information in ways useful for evidence-informed decision making at national and sub-national levels.
- Prepare training sessions on the identification and coding of causes of death using the ICD-10 revision, in collaboration with the World Health Organization and the Syndicate of Hospitals.

Qualifications and Skills
1. Master's in Public Health (preferably Epidemiology & Statistics), Data Analytics, or any other related field
2. A minimum of two years relevant work experience in health statistics and data analysis.
3. Previous training or experience in ICD- 10 is highly favored (please specify on CV in case such experience exists)
4. Experience in NGO or public related setting is a strong asset.
5. Strong skills in extracting, cleaning, merging and analyzing health statistical data
6. Strong coordination and communication skills
7. Strong ability to research, analyze, evaluate and synthesize qualitative and quantitative information
8. General ability to draft ideas and concepts, clearly and concisely in written and oral form.
9. High computer proficiency in SPSS, Microsoft Office and software required for completing the tasks.
10. Language requirements: English; Arabic; French (read, write, speak)
