Overview:
Wabtec is a leading supplier of value-added, technology-based products and services for rail, transit and other global industries. Wabtec is seeking a Systems Engineer. The Candidate has responsibility for system design, requirements definition, and requirements validation for rail passenger transit brake, brake control and coupler systems.

Position functionally reporting to: Engineering Manager – Bids & Projects
Responsibilities:
Management
- Assign Resources and coordinate/schedule technical deliverables for active projects with the project EPMs.
- Coordinate with the project EPMs to manage the task work for each project and the assigned resources, setting commitment dates and effort estimates, ensuring effective execution to meet commitments.
- Have ability to work with/deal with all levels of internal and external organizations.
- Adapt to changing priorities and directives as they evolve and continue to execute efficiently.
- Work with all stakeholders to plan and implement process improvements that will make the group more efficient while still maintaining accuracy and integrity of the bid package. This may include, but is not limited-to: Kaizen events, regularly scheduled bid improvement meetings, team working sessions and independent tasks as assigned or from self-motivation.
Technical
- Provide system level direction, guidance, and support to the team while facilitating independent decision making
- Provide technical guidance and oversight of requirements management activities. Ensure proper processes are followed, requirements are allocated and traced accurately.
- Review system level technical deliverables for content and accuracy, ensure the deliverable is in-line with the goals of the project (scope, CDRL’s, schedule commitments, etc.)
- Participate in both internal and external design reviews.
Projects
- Review project technical risks and ensure proper mitigation strategies are executed by the team.
- Work cooperatively and cohesively with others in the organization, understanding we are all working to achieve (ultimately) the same goal(s) for a successful business.
Tenders
Reporting
- Communicate and review project technical status to customers and peers at various organizational levels.
- Attend regularly scheduled status meetings and provide status updates to the management team on technical aspects of assigned projects. This includes but is not limited to, project team meetings, management review meetings, & EO review meetings as required.
- Communicate clearly and concisely whether written or verbal; ensuring the audience is accurately informed and has a clear understanding of the topic/issue/points being conveyed.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 years’ experience in a design or system engineering position that includes areas associated with a design life cycle (planning, concept, requirements, design, implementation, testing, maintenance)
- BS Electrical Engineering, BS Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering, BS AeroSpace Engineering, BS Computer Engineering
- Strong academic background involving mechanical and electrical disciplines. Mechanical applications skills are required.
- Desire to learn and practice project management activities (scheduling, tracking, etc.)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills related to technical items and project reporting.
- Willingness to learn negotiation and customer management skills.
- Interpersonal skills needed for dealing with all levels of internal and external organizations.
- A high degree of self-discipline and self-motivation is required.
- A desire for customer satisfaction and customer interaction is required.
- Ability to accept and respond to daily direction provided by the Project/Program Manager.
- Ability to be a team player is required.
- Willingness to learn and develop skills related to planning, requirements, design, architecture, verification and validation, testing and problem solving
- Willingness to learn and study industry standards – IEEE/EN/IEC
- Any Rail experience a plus.
