The
American University of Kuwait seeks a forward-thinking, result-oriented and
dynamic leader to be the founding Dean of its new College of Engineering.
Located in Kuwait, the American University of Kuwait (AUK) is an independent,
private, equal opportunity, and coeducational liberal arts institution of
higher education. The educational, cultural, and administrative structure,
methods and standards of AUK are based on the American model of higher
learning. The language of instruction is English.
AUK collaborates with Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, by which the
two institutions share a commitment to excellence in higher learning.
The College will house BE degree programs in Electrical Engineering and
Computer Engineering that are accredited by the Accreditation Board for
Engineering & Technology (ABET), in addition to the BSc degree program in
Computer Science that is accredited by the ABET Computing Accreditation
Commission, and the BSc in Information Systems.
The Dean will be responsible for promoting excellence in teaching and research,
providing creative leadership in the development and implementation of the
engineering and sciences curriculum, serving as the College’s key
representative, and working collaboratively with other academic and
administrative units of the University.
The successful candidate should have a terminal degree (PhD) in a related field
from an accredited institution; teaching and administrative experience in an
accredited college or university engineering program; substantial leadership
experience in higher education and the personal characteristics required to
lead the newly created college. Other desirable attributes include proven
leadership and development of people and programs, a history of team building, excellent
interpersonal and communication skills, and the proven ability to implement the
strategic vision for the College’s programs. Experience working in the Arabian
Gulf and/or the broader Arab region and in American model institutions are
desirable.
Salary and terms of appointment will be commensurate with the selected
candidate’s experience, education, and background.
