The mechanical engineer will participate in all aspects of Sensera’s mechanical engineering efforts including the design, prototyping, testing, and implementation of mechanical systems for new and existing Sensera products, production tools, and test fixtures. Candidates should be very comfortable using SolidWorks to develop detailed models of parts and assemblies, generate specification drawings, and create work instruction and marketing material.
Candidates should be familiar with good design for manufacturability practices for injection molded, sheet metal, and machined parts, as well as the mechanical design aspects of printed circuit boards. Candidates should understand the use and limitations of various prototyping methods including additive manufacturing, machining, casting, etc. and be comfortable performing shop work.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Use SolidWorks to create part and assembly models, specification drawings, work instruction, and marketing materials
● Find, select, and communicate with custom and off-the-shelf part vendors including rapid prototype shops, injection molders, and component suppliers
● Understand and accommodate manufacturing constraints for injection molded, sheet metal, machined, and additively manufactured parts
● Effectively incorporate printed circuit boards and other electronic components into mechanical systems while accommodating their electrical requirements
● Work safely with hand and machine tools in a shop environment to efficiently produce prototypes, products, custom tools, and fixtures
● Create and maintain engineering documents including component specifications, bills of materials, and engineering change documents
● Collaborate effectively with other business departments to approve vendors, maintain supply chains, and control quality
QUALIFICATIONS
● Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or demonstrated competence and equivalent experience
● Highly proficient with SolidWorks
● Fundamental understanding of injection molded part design
● Familiar with mechanical design aspects of electronic components
● Understanding of outdoor electronics enclosure design, especially static, low-pressure seal design
● Familiar with Lean manufacturing principles, especially continuous improvement practices
