Position Summary

The Department of Large Animal Clinical Sciences at Michigan State University (http://www.cvm.msu.edu/lcs) seeks candidates for an Associate or Full Professor position. This position holds the the prestigious title of David J. Ellis Chair in Antimicrobial Resistance. The successful candidate will lead and enhance research programs that complement college and campus-wide interdisciplinary initiatives in One Health especially focused on efforts in antimicrobial resistance solutions. Applicants are sought with strong records of research contributions in antimicrobial resistance mechanisms, host-microbe-microbiome biology, microbial pathogenicity mechanisms, microbial immunology and immunity to infection, genetics of infection resistance or susceptibility, and evolution of pathogenicity; outstanding candidates in drug discovery related to antimicrobial resistance are encouraged to apply. The position holds potential for a joint-appointment in the Department of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics.

The investigator holding the David J. Ellis Chair will be prominent within the College of Veterinary Medicine, collaborating with researchers in other departments and colleges on campus. Interdisciplinary research opportunities exist through the Departments of Microbiology & Molecular Genetics, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, Physiology, and Chemistry. Other collaborative opportunities are in the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering, BEACON Center for the Study of Evolution in Action, the Enteric Disease Research Investigational Network, Center for Microbial Ecology, Clinical and Translational Sciences Institute, Center for Water Sciences, Institute for Cyber-Enabled Research (iCER), and Institute for Computational Biology. Participation and leadership in teaching, and promoting graduate student education and post-doctoral training programs is also expected. The appointment will be in the tenure system at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Minimum Requirements

Applicants should have a Ph.D., D.V.M., or M.D. or equivalent advanced degree(s), an internationally recognized research program and a desire for continued scholarly and creative growth. We are seeking an outstanding individual with an established and current record of extramural research funding at the federal level and demonstrated commitment to graduate student education.
