The Opportunity
The Student Accessibility Services is seeking for an incumbent fortheposition of Accessibility Technology Specialist to be responsibleforcreating accessible content and providing technical trainingforstudents with physical disabilities and Learning Difficulties(Studentsof Determination) who are registered with StudentsAccessibilityServices Department (SAS), in-line with international SENbest practice.Proactively promotes the awareness about SAS to encouragethe acceptanceof Students of Determination amongst Zayed Universitycommunity. Inaddition, the incumbent advocates on behalf of students ondisabilityrelated matters, and provides consultations to students,faculty andstaff on technical issues.
The Responsibilities
• Monitor and integrate new technologiesineducation for SEN students, aiding learning and teaching forcurricular development.• Conducts training and promotes the useofassistive technology, especially relating to Appleaccessibilityfeatures to students and faculty
• Plans, trains and evaluatesprofessionaldevelopment activities and events for SAS and ZU communitymembersinterested in adapting content for Students of Determination.
• Recommends innovative assistive technologiesandsoftware for the ongoing, upgrading and updating of SASInclusiveLearning Center.
• Develops outreach programs and scale theworkdone by SAS for other educational institutions in the Emirates andtheregion at large.
• Aids the development, creation and managementofall digital content for SAS and SAS related projects.
• Manages a caseload of students andoverseesupport services for Students of Determination
• Follows up progress of Students ofDeterminationthroughout the academic year.
• Provides training and orientationforinstructors about the technical educational needs of StudentsofDetermination to meet the curriculum Objectives
• Runs and participates in awareness eventsandconduct visits to classroom in Zayed University to inform studentsaboutSAS services.
• Visits schools to promote theStudentAccessibility Services Department to encourage students withLearningDifficulties to join ZU.
• Conduct workshops and presentationsonaccessibility and Learning Difficulties for the professionaldevelopmentof faculty and staff at Zayed University.
• Serve on committees as deemed appropriateandrepresent the department at university functions as requested.
• Performs any relevant duties as assigned by the Director.
The Requirements
• Must possess a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in, LearningDifficulties,Information Technology or related field, with a minimum of4 years ofexperience in administering services for individuals withLearningDifficulties to include identifying and implementingstudentaccommodations or an equivalent combination of both.Other essential requirements:• Ability to design innovative digitalandphysical learning spaces.
• Demonstrated understanding of UAE lawsrelatedto Learning Difficulties.
• Demonstrated understanding ofdevelopmentalissues facing university students from a diverse range ofcultures and backgrounds.
• Demonstrated knowledge of LearningDifficultiesassessment, accommodations, services and related technologies.
• Excellent organizational andadministrativeskills; strong planning and facilitation skills.
