We seek aMechanical Engineerresponsible for management of HVAC, Plumbing, and Fire Protection (FP) projects within the MEP/IC group. This individual should have strong experience in designing mechanical, plumbing, and FP infrastructure in heavy industrial environments, preferably in wastewater and water treatment and pumping facilities. Past experience in project management and/or group leadership strongly desired.

Responsibilities:

  • Mechanical contract drawing and specification production for a wide range of project types including water and wastewater treatment plants, odor control systems, administration and laboratory facilities, vehicle maintenance buildings, central heating plants and others.
  • Control systems design and specifications, conceptual design development, mechanical field trouble shooting, and mechanical systems cost estimating.
  • Experience in energy and sustainable design evaluations, alternative and renewable energy analyses, energy conservation measurement, and combined heat and power applications desired.

Education: BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering and current PE registration in a US state or territory are required. Must be able to obtain PE registration in multiple states through reciprocity, PE registration in Illinois within four months of employment is required. LEED-AP accreditation is a plus; accreditation as a LEED AP – BD+C within one year of employment is required.
Requirements: minimum of 8-12 years experience in mechanical (HVAC, plumbing and fire protection) design, related energy design and mechanical project management.

Engineering knowledge, skills and experience should include familiarity with all applicable HVAC, plumbing and fire protection codes, energy code knowledge and design impact assessment, interdisciplinary coordination, LEED credit applications as they apply to mechanical design, specification organization and writing, and engineering economics proficiency. The candidate needs a high level of communication skills including excellent composition and writing skills, demonstrable technical report writing experience, quick communication of design concepts through sketches/diagrams.

Proficiency in Word, Excel and design load calculation and energy modeling programs. Experience with HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection design using 3D design software such as AutoCAD MEP or Revit desired. Additional proficiencies in PowerPoint, AutoCAD, CAD data models, and computational fluid dynamic modeling are a plus.
