So what does a Civil Engineer at Michael Baker International do?

As a part of our Civil Engineering team, the Civil Engineer will assist Project Engineers with tasks appropriate for a junior engineer, including data review, site review, field documentation, data collection, data organization, data analysis, civil engineering planning and design.

Can you walk me through a typical day of a Civil Engineer?

  • The majority of your day would be spent on a team performing various tasks- reviewing design plans, to reviewing permit applications, performing field inspections, preparing plans, specifications and estimates and performing data collection and field work.
  • You will work with Project Engineers and Managers who will guide you in the development of deliverables.

What can I expect for a career path, and where might this role take me?

  • A Civil Engineer typically progresses into a Project Engineer role upon passing the Professional Engineer Examination and gaining the important credential. A project engineer is typically equipped with tools to lead and mentor a group of Civil Associates, Designers and Drafters; and is on track to become either a Technical Manager or a Project Manager. There are also many opportunities to advance or move laterally into other areas of interest within the business!

Could you be the Civil Engineer we are looking for?

  • You’ll need a Bachelor's degree, or equivalent work experience; and 2-4 years of related experience.
  • Excellent English language skills, written and verbal, are essential to success in this role.
  • Naturally, you’ll need computer skills in Microsoft Office. AutoCAD or Micro station design software is preferred.,.
