Responsibilities:
Performs basic and applied research on critical or difficult problems involving the development of new methodologies. Provides deep expertise in analytical chemistry, separations, mass spectrometry and sample preparation. Budget management and lab/instrumentation maintenance responsibility. Participates in external professional activities (i.e. publication of research, fund raising efforts, attendance/participation in professional conferences). Exercises functional and administrative management over supporting research staff and training.
An opportunity is available for a highly motivated quantitative protein mass spectrometry scientist to join an appointment in the Ivanov laboratory at the Barnett Institute. The successful candidate will provide deep expertise for investigating 1. rare stem cells and limited biological samples and 2. extracellular exosomes and microvesicles from biological fluids, projects supported by the NIH, including support for advancing and developing new groundbreaking measurements of limited samples, including exosomes, single-cells, and small populations of rare cells based on advanced sample preparation, separation, mass spectrometry and data analysis. The successful applicant will be primarily responsible for the development and implementation of innovative bioanalytical methods, sample preparation and analysis of limited clinical and biological samples using LC-MS- and CE-MS-based detection to elucidate molecular mechanisms of biological phenomena. This position requires strong bioanalytical expertise and experience with separations coupled to high resolution quantitative mass spectrometry. The responsibilities of the successful candidate will include research, assistance to the supervisor in the interpretation and publication of the generated results as well as in grantsmanship. The successful candidate will also be responsible for maintaining the equipment, managing the laboratory and assistance in functional supervision and training of students and junior research personnel. Primary responsibility is ensuring that the research is complete and published. The senior scientist will join the highly collaborative state-of-the-art laboratory and is expected to build strong collaborative relations with the members of the Ivanov lab and external collaborators, as well as to develop and drive new projects within the scope of the group. The successful candidate will be actively involved in interdisciplinary research with laboratories of the Barnett Institute and the biomedical/biotech community of the Boston area.
Qualifications:
Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in chemistry/biochemistry or related discipline; progressively more responsible experience that demonstrates the ability to plan and execute research; previous supervisory experience.
