Designer - Electrical Engineering

If you have an engineering, industrial designer, or Journeyman’s electrical background, we have an exciting opportunity for you to join our Rail team in downtown Saint Paul as an Electrical Designer!
As a member of our team, you will provide sophisticated and complex system commissioning, troubleshooting, and design services for freight rail facilities and operation sites. You will be responsible for electrical and control system installation, maintenance, and upgrades along with low and medium power distribution system design, arc flash hazard analysis, and wiring diagrams. You will collaborate with a multi-disciplined team of professionals to determine equipment layout and selections, commission and test equipment, conduct field analysis / investigations, provide construction oversight, and perform inspections for NEC specification compliance.
Required Qualifications. To make an impact and contribute to our team, you must possess the following qualifications:
- Ten or more years of experience designing, installing, commissioning, and maintaining electrical and instrumentation systems for commercial and / or industrial applications.
- Licensed as an Electrical Engineer or Class A Journeyman or Master Electrician in the State of Minnesota (other states a plus).
- Previous experience designing electrical distribution, automation, and controls systems and performing electrical and instrumentation controls (E&I/C) construction inspections.
- Previous experience conducting arc flash investigations including data collection, ground grid testing, and calculations.
- Ability to read and interpret multi-disciplined construction drawings.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA 70 and National Electric Code (NEC) with an ability to interpret requirements for commercial and / or industrial applications.
- Familiarity with P&IDs, process control loops, PLCs and PLC networks, and HMIs.
- Previous experience with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Strong technical skills with an ability to articulate ideas and concepts both visually and in writing.
- Self-motivated with an ability to work independently under tight deadlines.
- Ability to travel up to 50% as needed for site inspections / verifications, construction administration duties, project team meetings, client consultations, etc.; Occasional overnight travel will be required.
Preferred Qualifications. The following qualifications are a plus and will help you make a smooth transition into your new role:
- Formal education including Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Associate’s Degree in Electrical System Design, Electrical Engineering Technology, Engineering CAD Technology, or related field.
- Previous experience with AutoCAD or Revit MEP; understanding of drafting standards including dimensioning, scaling, view ports, drawing layout, and checking.
