Position Summary
As a member of Undergraduate Academic Services (UAS) in the Eli Broad College of Business, this position processes/oversees hiring documents in SAP for FAS, staff and student employees; provides calendar and administrative support for the UAS Assistant Dean; supervises, schedules, prioritizes, and assigns the work of support staff and student employees, including interviewing, recommending employment, training, professional development, evaluation, performance review, and employee discipline; leverages and builds on support staff members’ skills to create a high functioning support unit; provides administrative leadership or back-up support to unit efforts including but not limited to scholarships, academic orientation, College admissions, commencement, programming, overrides, and BUS course management; manages and assists with budget development and projections, analyzes, reconciles and reviews accounting and payroll records and transactions; explains University policies and procedures to unit staff and students and resolves problems; develop unit operational policies and procedures; manages unit facility maintenance including office assignments; handles all matters in a positive and professional manner with the expectation to provide excellent customer service; and performs other duties as assigned.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical, vocational or business school with coursework in business administration, labor and industrial relations, human resources, communication, or a business related field; one to three years related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience providing administrative support, supervision of staff; financial, accounting, and human resource policies and procedures; experience in word processing, spreadsheet, database, calendaring, presentation, desktop publishing, webpage software; or in performing responsibilities related to the operational activities of the employing unit; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Experience with Enterprise Business Systems (EBS) including SAP human resource/payroll and Kuali financial systems; strong technical skills including proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly with Word, Excel, and Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, Adobe In-Design, Google Docs, and Qualtrics; competency in the use of the Student Information Systems (SIS) and Registrar’s Office systems and forms; experience with MSU human resource and business policies and procedures, including travel policies; experience with MSU academic policies and systems, including program and course scheduling; demonstrated ability to be discrete regarding human resource and financial issues; ability to answer questions that assist the unit to resolve student and staff problems and conflicts; ability to interpret and assist in developing policies and procedures.
