Global Experience Office Overview:
The Global Experience Office (GEO) is a central office of global education at Northeastern University, committed to ensuring that every Northeastern student has an opportunity to engage in intellectually challenging and culturally enriching experiences throughout the world. To achieve this, GEO partners with Northeastern colleges and units to integrate global experiences into their curricula and to enhance their capacity in operating global programs. GEO’s own signature programs are carefully designed and operated to complement students’ on-campus studies, to deepen students’ knowledge of the world and their chosen field of study, develop intercultural and political sensitivity, utilize and strengthen foreign language skills, and help students explore global career options. Through these programs, GEO facilitates global experiences for over 2,700 NU students and 200 additional foreign incoming students.
With supervision from the Assistant Director of Program Development, the Program Development Manager (PDM) will be responsible for the 360 development of GEO programs of all types in an assigned region(including, but not limited to, Dialogue of Civilizations, Embedded programs, Exchange and Study Abroad programs, Global Quest programs, Research, Alumni programs, faculty programs, etc.). The PDM articulates program goals, alongside GEO Advising and Logistics teams and in collaboration with faculty, departments and colleges, and ensures the program goals are reflected in the design and implemented as intended. PDM manages and tracks changes and adjustments to programs, and ensures that the most up-to-date information uploaded into the travel registry. The PDM negotiates the scope of services with vendors and articles of agreements with partners; works with the Contract Specialist to formalize the agreements. PDM gathers information and materials required for hiring program faculty and staff (including names, resumes, etc.) while working closely with the Logistics Coordinator in charge of the hiring process. PDM collaborates with GEO Advisors on creating and updating program information on the GEO website, regional program guides, and program-specific handbooks. PDM analyzes post-program assessment, conducts periodic program reviews, and provides recommendations for program improvements.
The Program Development Manager will develop and cultivate relationships with university partners, program providers, and onsite vendors in the assigned region; research, evaluate, and engage with new partners and vendors to fill the academic, programmatic, and student support needs. The PDM will assemble information on partners’ administrative processes and academic requirements, and will catalogue such information in a comprehensive knowledge base of GEO preferred vendors/partners.
This position is expected to travel to conduct periodic site visits and to attend, facilitate, and/or present at meetings or conferences domestically and internationally. Some extended evening advising hours, as well as some evening and weekend and events will be required to accommodate Northeastern students and coop students and faculty.
PM plays an important role in GEO regional “pods” – teams of advisors, program designers, and operations coordinators who collaborate to ensure quality of programming and continuity of services to GEO’s key audiences.
This position is a permanent full time role, and has a start date of July 1, 2019.
Qualifications:
• Master’s degree plus 2+ years of
academic administrative experience required; or Bachelor’s plus 4-6 years of
academic administrative experience required.
• 2+ years of program development experience.
• Previous experience studying abroad at the undergraduate level or time living
abroad.
• Demonstrated commitment to international education and the promotion of
cross-cultural understanding.
• Understanding of NAFSA (Association of International educators),
professional ethics and competencies.
• Familiarity with international political, social, and cultural issues as they
pertain to education abroad, international travel, and international service.
• Knowledge of principles and issues of program development, including the
ability to advise faculty, administrators, and Deans who wish to lead or create
programming.
• Communication and interpersonal skills to positively engage people from
diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
• Excellent problem-solving and strong analytical skills with proven ability to
strategize, prioritize, and multi-task to meet goals and deadlines.
• Strong interpersonal skills, sufficient to inspire others and work
effectively and collaboratively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and
other stakeholders. This includes professionalism and collegiality in a team
environment, excellent judgment, discretion, and the ability to make decisions
in a timely manner.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including intercultural and
interpersonal communication.
• The ability to interact with global program representatives, faculty, and
students in a highly professional manner with an understanding of protocol and
confidentiality. Must effectively represent the University to outside
institutions and universities.
• Strong organizational, project management, administrative, and computer
skills.
• Proficiency in Excel and other Microsoft Office software required.
Familiarity with Salesforce, Terra Dotta, and student record systems (e.g.,
Banner) preferred.
• Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
