Job description

Gas Technology Institute (GTI), a leading research and development organization serving energy markets, is seeking a Chemical Process Engineer to support pilot and demonstration scale plants utilizing aerospace technologies. GTI recently acquired the energy assets of Aerojet Rocketdyne, a leading provider of solid and liquid propulsion systems for aerospace systems, and is continuing the application of these high energy density aerospace technologies to provide innovative solutions for the power, oil and chemical industries. As part of our Advanced Energy Systems team you will support the application and development of these technologies, including identification of opportunities, through design, construction and operation of pilot and demonstration scale plants.

The immediate need for this position is to support design, construction and operation of a demonstration scale gasification plant in China. Fluency in Mandarin, the ability to travel frequently and/or consider extended assignments or relocation in China are desirable for this position.

Qualifications:

Five years relevant work experience with at least a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering. The qualified candidate is expected to work independently on routine engineering problems, be capable of planning and conducting work requiring independent judgment and evaluation. Abilities to communicate well orally and in writing, and work effectively as a team/project member are necessary.

Additional knowledge/skills conducive to success in this position include:

  • Familiarity with gasification, methane reforming, electrical power generation processes
  • Ability to create Process Flow Diagrams (PFD) and Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID)
  • Familiarity with ASME standards for boiler, pressure vessel and piping design
  • Familiarity with chemical process analysis tools (preferably ASPEN PLUS)
  • Ability to develop control system truth tables/logic diagrams
  • Ability to generate operating procedures
  • Familiarity with HAZOP review methodology and other plant safety assessments
  • Technical ability to interpret test results and incorporate them into analysis methodologies
