The Department of Arabic and Near Eastern Languages at the American University of Beirut seeks applicants for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Lecturer/Instructor to begin in August 2019.

Applicants must have a PhD (for the Lecturer rank) or MA (for the Instructor rank) in Arabic language and literature by the time of appointment, and experience teaching courses in Arabic language, literature and culture. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that deal with Arabic literary and cultural heritage and modern Arabic thought within the Arabic-for-Communication Skills program. Commitment to communication-based and learner-centered approaches to Arabic is required. Experience in teaching Arabic to non-native speakers is preferred.

The language of instruction in this department (and only in this department) is Standard Arabic (Fuṣḥā), but the successful candidate is also expected to demonstrate excellent command of English.

This is a teaching position that carries a full teaching load of eight courses per academic year. The successful candidate will be expected to devote full time to teaching and developing courses and instructional materials within the Arabic for Communication Skills program as deemed necessary by the Department.
