Responsibilities:
The Senior Director reports to the Assistant Vice President for Student Services & Administration within Student Affairs. S/he will be actively engaged in understanding the trends in higher education and what that means for the future of the residential student experience on and off campus, and abroad.
S/he will provide strategic planning, financial and budget management, leadership and supervision to Housing Services and to Off Campus Housing & Support Services. Housing Services is responsible for all freshman, upper-class, graduate and law student housing assignments, which includes the overall student experience, billing of room charges, room change management, rate setting and forecasting for 9,400+ beds. The Senior Director will oversee strategic planning and projections to maintain housing occupancy at as close to 100% as possible for each fall and spring term, with consideration for January enrollments, residence hall capital projects (construction and renovation), and the future of the housing program. S/he will provide vision, direction, and guidance for the housing websites, social media and customer service. S/he will guide the implementation of ongoing policies, processes and procedures for the unit, in collaboration with Housing Services and Residential Life, that are conducive to connecting students to university support services such as academic and career advising, health concerns, safety and security, and the like.
Off Campus Housing & Support Services is responsible for providing programming, services, and resources to students who are participating in an academic, co-op or co-curricular experience outside of Boston. This unit serves as a resource for students while they are away, keeping them informed, connected, and networked to other Northeastern students and alumni across the country and abroad. It also assists students and campus partners with finding student housing and other relocation/support services outside of Boston that supports university programs and enhances the student experience throughout their journey.
The Senior Director will provide strategic planning and leadership for Fall and Spring Move-in experience, both on-campus and in other regions, bringing together campus partners, business partners, and vendors to organize and plan successful transitions between terms.
In consultation with the Assistant Vice President, s/he will serve as the primary Liaison to the “LightView” Management team, and oversee ongoing collaboration with them with respect to the student experience in that facility. LightView is Northeastern’s first private housing development, scheduled to open in the Fall of 2019, with 820 beds.
The Senior Director will facilitate assessment projects for all of the units within the Assistant Vice President’s area. Assessment will inform how we can enhance the students’ experience, strategically enable their mobility, and expand their opportunities as we align ourselves with the University’s vision for 2025 and beyond.
The Senior Director will assist the AVP with other strategic projections and initiatives. S/he work collaboratively with leadership from all areas of the university (i.e. ITS, Admissions, Enrollment Management, Student Financial Services, Registrar, Building Services, Facilities, Orientation, SGA etc.). The Senior Director maintains relationships with technology vendors; investigates and/or helps to define system upgrades, trains and/or recommends training as needed to increase the efficiency of the department through technology.
S/he will serve as part of an “Executive Director on Call” duty rotation; some evenings and weekends required.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years progressively
responsible experience in Student Affairs/Housing Services/Residential Life
Administration, or other related higher education experience.
• 7-10 years management and supervision experience required.
• Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Business Administration,
Computer Science, or related field required.
• Must have strong analytical skills, 5-7 years’ experience working with
databases and data analysis preferred.
• A creative thinker and problem solver. Ability to solve complex interactions
and demonstrate a high level of critical thinking skills.
• Natural collaborator with excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
• Self-starter with a track record of delivering quality work under deadlines.
• Extraordinary attention to details.
• Available some nights and weekends, and to serve on a 24/hr on-call Executive
Level duty rotation.
