The Department of Biology, Chemistry, and Environmental Sciences in the College of Arts and Sciences at American University of Sharjah (AUS) invites experienced candidates to apply for the Head of Department (HoD) position. Successful candidates are required to have PhD in biology, chemistry, environmental sciences or related areas; current rank of professor; experience in American models of higher education; and excellent record in teaching, research and service.
Qualifications
The Department of Biology, Chemistry and Environmental Sciences at AUS offers a Bachelor of Science in Biology, a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry, and a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences. Our programs, accredited by the Commission for Academic Accreditation of the Ministry of Education's Higher Education Affairs Division in the United Arab Emirates, prepare our graduates for a variety of exciting careers. The department currently has 16 full-time faculty members and 9 full-time lab staff who are actively engaged in various fields of research.
Following the AUS research strategic plan approved by the Board of Trustees, the university had recently established four institutes and three centers: the Bioscience and Bioengineering Research Institute (BBRI), the Materials Science and Engineering Research Institute (MSERI), the Smart Cities Research Institute (SCRI), the Gulf Environments Research Institute (GERI), the High-Performance Computing Center (HPCC), the Geospatial Analysis Center (GAC) and the Genomic Research Center. These institutes and centers have recently commenced the work outlined in the strategic plan, including laboratory renovation, equipment purchasing and installation, research program initiation, PhD program development, outreach activities and more.
