The University of Central Florida (UCF) is dedicated to increase the prominence of its Civil, Environmental, and Construction Engineering (CECE) Department. Applications are invited for a tenure-track faculty position under the FUTURe CITy – Fostering Smart Urban Transformation and Ubiquitous Resilience with Connected Infrastructure and Technology – a Smart City initiative housed within the CECE Department. The FUTURe CITy initiative’s goal is to attract faculty who have a vision to synergistically explore wide-ranging technological advances towards better serving urban residents. The interdisciplinary research environment, access to rapid metropolitan economic and population growth, and nexus of world-class simulation, space technology and tourism industries co-located in the Central Florida metro region provide unique research opportunities to the potential faculty candidates. This initiative will provide urban policy makers and planners a blueprint that can be used to optimally allocate limited resources while meeting sustainability and resilience goals and promoting social justice, equity, and fairness. For exceptional candidates, associate professor rank may be considered. The position is expected to commence in August, 2018. Position Minimum Qualifications: Applicants must have a Ph.D. from an accredited institution in a Smart City-related engineering field such as Civil or Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or any related field at the time of appointment. In order to obtain tenure, the selected candidate must have a demonstrated record of teaching, research and service commensurate with rank. Preferences: We are especially interested in candidates with expertise in Smart City research domains including but not limited to the role of information and communication technologies (such as wireless, DSRC) and Internet of Things (IoT), design and operation of smart cities, modeling of interconnected physical and social infrastructure, connected and autonomous technology (such as connected/autonomous vehicles, adaptive traffic signals, drones, autonomous technology security, Global Positioning System Navigation), analytics (including artificial intelligence, deep learning), mobile onboard units, sharing economy (such as peer-to-peer networks, ridesharing), sensing for interconnected infrastructure (including transportation, water, wastewater and structures), and computer vision applications in Civil Engineering. Successful applicants will have either demonstrated or shown a clear potential for creative and independent research that would lead to strong extramurally-funded research and national/international recognition.
