Responsible for the design and development of metal forming processes for automotive driveline components. Requires technical knowledge and experience in product drawing interpretation, tooling design, metal forming, supplier collaboration, and plant support. Must be experienced and capable in specific aspects of metal forming to include: cold extrusion, warm forming, tube swaging, measurement & test technologies, simulation, 3D modeling and familiarity of metal forming equipment and lubricants.

Responsibilities:

  • Development of lightweight tubular driveline components
  • Produce detailed tooling drawings and process instructions necessary for production of tubular driveline components utilizing available CAD tools such as Solidworks and AutoCAD
  • Utilize Forge 2&3 metal forming software to develop and validate new tooling designs and or processes
  • Must be knowledgeable in a variety of tool steels and their properties
  • Proficient in standard metrology equipment such as micrometers, height gages, bore micrometers, etc.
  • Develop detailed manufacturing plans for new programs that will require new equipment or retool of existing equipment
  • Coordinate with Program Team and Plant Manufacturing to determine available capacity and floor space
  • Coordinate with Sales, Product Engineering and Cost Estimating to submit manufacturing cost estimates
  • Work with prototype to confirm manufacturing estimates and test proposed manufacturing processes
  • Collaborate with Product Engineering to determine most cost effective product and process
  • Develop Process Flow Diagram to be used as a reference for supplier quoting
  • Prepare all sourcing activities from RFQ to PO for new machining equipment
  • Coordinate program change requests
  • Prepare for PLTs, Executive Reviews, and Program Review documentation
  • Develop gage strategies based on sound GD & T knowledge
  • Supervise equipment certification and run-off
  • Coordinate equipment shipment, installation and launch

Position Requirements:

  • Will require intermittent travel to Manufacturing facilities and suppliers
  • CAD experience AutoCAD and Solidworks
  • Metal Forming knowledge
