Experienced Project Engineer from Chemical or Plastics Industry

Description:

The Sr. Project Engineer reports to the Operations Manager and has primary responsibility for providing technical leadership and engineering support the North America hot melt production facilities.

The Sr. Project Engineer is based at our production facility in Paducah and will support other North America hot melt production facilities.

  • Designs manufacturing systems and processes with careful attention to safety, quality, environmental impact and cost.
  • Thru collaboration with H.B. Fuller EHS department provide process support to maximize employee safety, minimize environmental risk, and ensure the compliance with all applicable environmental regulations.
  • Consider the use of innovative new process technology to improve efficiency of the existing manufacturing processes.
  • Reviews and approves all engineering drawings.
  • Prepares preliminary costs estimates, project proposals and capital expenditure requests. Develops and prepares written specifications (in accordance with corporate design standards and best practices) and bid packages. Prepares and manages projects using the FEL / Stage Gate process for capital approval.
  • Develops projects schedules; manages budget and timelines of approved projects.
  • Investigates options in equipment selection. Visits equipment vendors to access performance capability.
  • Responsible for all procurement and construction of new manufacturing systems, from design through process commissioning (“cradle to grave”).
  • Screens and hires all contractors (general, mechanical, electrical, etc.). Monitors, inspects and coordinates the construction site operations of all contractors.
  • Communicates effectively by written reports and informal contacts to ensure all appropriate personnel are aware of project status. Coordinates the execution of capital projects with other operations functions to minimize downtime.
  • Serves on the start-up team for the new manufacturing system. Leads and/or oversees the drafting of start-up, shut-down, and safe operating procedures. Supports the training of plant personnel for new equipment.
  • Interact with other departments to provide the highest level of teamwork and cooperation between groups. Serves as a technical resource for other engineers.

Requirements:

  • BS Degree preferably in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Plant Safety: The individual must have 5 + years of experience in plant safety. Knowledge of confined space entry, lockout/tag out, and burn permit requirements is essential. Experience with behavior-based safety programs such as DuPont STOP would be beneficial.
  • A minimum of 8+ years of experience in a manufacturing engineering capacity with a proven track record of managing projects. Direct project management experience of 5+ years.
  • 5 + years of proven Project Management experience leading simultaneous projects exceeding $1,500,000 annually or PMP certification.
  • 5 + years of experience as the lead engineer, not a member of a larger team.
  • 3 + years of batch process manufacturing and semi-continuous process manufacturing experience as a minimum, should have experience in general chemical processing and packaging.
  • 5 + years of experience with design review process, regulatory requirements (OSHA, EPA, FDA), general chemical engineering design knowledge (heat transfer, material balance, fluid dynamics and mass transfer) and functional design and operation of control systems (HMI design, Reporting, Alarming, etc.)
